Jocelyn Mackie

Biography

Jocelyn supports clients looking to have impact and create value, often at the intersection of innovation, industry and government.

As a former General Counsel and then co-CEO of one of Canada’s largest impact investors, she now advises clients in making strategic decisions to enhance value.

She supports complex litigation, with creativity and outcomes focused strategies.

She facilitates public private partnerships that create financial value and positive impact for communities.

She advocates for client interests before government agencies and representatives including the Federal Government of Canada, Ontario Government and US Government.

She creates ESG strategies that are actionable and measurable, driving investor and stakeholder confidence, and help to advance the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

She helps clients solve complex problems.

Prior to returning to Gilbert’s, Jocelyn jointly-applied and was named co-CEO of Grand Challenges Canada until she stepped down in 2023. She also previously served as General Counsel, Secretary to the Board, Vice President Operations &Director of Business Strategy. Her leadership enabled:

  • Investment in over 1500 innovations in over 90 countries around the world
  • The structure and launch of a health impact fund, and investment in two other impact funds, for financial and impact returns
  • The Incubation of the Indigenous Innovation Initiative
  • Securing over $400M in funding
  • Social, environmental sustainability and good governance policies and procedures
  • Risk management and risk appetite systems to align stakeholders

Jocelyn is a board member of the Canadian Network for Women & Children’s Health.

She has a business degree from the Richard Ivey School of Business, Masters of Science from University of Toronto, and JD from the Faculty of Law at the University of Toronto. She was named one of Canada’s Top 40 Under 40 (2019). She was called to the Ontario Bar in 2008, and New York Bar in 2011.

When not focused on creating impact and value for clients, she spends time with her husband, their 5 children and extended family. She loves taking urban dance and tap classes as much as she can.
