Sacha Poirier-Feraud

Biography

Sacha is a creative problem solver and keen advocate who does what it takes to get the best result for his clients. As an associate at Gilbert’s, Sacha has developed a broad litigation practice with a focus on innovative and creative industries. Whether he is representing pharmaceutical companies, artists, engineers, or indigenous organizations, Sacha is able to quickly and accurately understand his clients’ needs and find the most efficient path to a solution.  

Sacha has a combined honours degree in Biology and Contemporary Philosophy from the University of Kings College and Dalhousie University in Halifax, and attended law school at the University of Toronto. As an undergraduate, Sacha pursued studies at the intersection of life sciences and philosophy culminating in a research thesis considering the ethical and regulatory implications of increasingly accessible and effective genetic modification technologies.

At the University of Toronto Faculty of Law, Sacha held a summer fellowship with the International Human Rights Program working as a legal intern at Amnesty International Canada. Sacha was the recipient of the Davies Ward Phillips & Vineberg LLP Prize in Contract Law. He also spent one semester abroad at an LLM program in Lyon where he specialized in private international law and comparative IP law.

When not at work, Sacha can often be found playing Tennis at Ramsden Park or planning his next culinary endeavor.

  • Morell Enterprises LLC v Bruised Productions et al, ONSC File No. CV-24-717076-CL: Counsel to plaintiff in proceedings concerning governance of film production company and commercialization of film asset. Matter ongoing. 
  • Steelhead v ARC Resources et al, BCSC File No. S-197484 (Vancouver): Counsel to plaintiff in litigation concerning breach of confidence and breach of the duties of good faith / honest contractual performance in respect of liquefied natural gas (LNG) project development.
  • Steelhead et al v ARC Resources et al, Federal Court File No. T-1488-20: Counsel to plaintiff / defendant by counterclaim in patent infringement action and related appeals concerning technology for liquefaction of natural gas.  
  • Six Nations of the Grand River Band of Indians v Canada et al, ONSC File No. CV-18-594281: Assisted proposed intervenor (the Haudenosaunee Development Institute) in major land claim litigation.  
  • CARCC v T.H.E Incorporated dba The Tragically Hip et al, Federal Court File No. T-2357-23: Counsel to the defendants in copyright infringement litigation concerning album artwork.
